According to reports, there are about 220 million tertiary education students in the world. Everyone tries to study on their own with their own techniques. Some accomplish their targets, but most fail to achieve the goals to study or retain the info.
The problem here is not about the student, but it's about the way how he is studying. Different ways have been identified to study effectively and retain the info perfectively.
I will discuss some of the techniques that I personally checked with friends.
1) Feynman Technique:
In this technique, whatever you studied just explain it to any object like a pen, book, or even to your younger sibling, to whom you have to explain it from basics.
The idea is not here to clarify the concept to younger siblings, but to recall the complete info from scratch without seeing the notes or books.
2) Pareto Principle:
I think you must have heard about the 80/20 rule, it's the synonym of that rule. This rule explains that 80% of questions in your exams are asked from 20% of your syllabus.
It doesn't apply only to studies, it's explained everywhere. Like, 80% of world wealth belongs to 20%.
So, simply if you are having exams, start preparation with that 20% of questions first, then you should dive into the remaining 80% of questions from where 20% of questions might be asked.
So, this rule helps to save time and retain more info in less time and conquer the exams.
3) Pomodoro Method:
Pomodoro is like slicing your time to have maximum efficiency in less time. Like, if you wanna study for consecutive 4 hours, then it doesn't mean to have your eyes on books or lectures for consecutive 4 hours.
Instead, slice down the time, like 25 mins study - 5 mins rest, repeat it. It doesn't mean to stick with it, you may change it to 40 mins study- 10 mins rest, or any else.
This technique gives your brain room to prepare for the next phase too.
So, some of the students think of using social media in those 5 or 10 mins. Instead of them, do work like cleaning your desk, having fresh air, or any work like them.
4) Active Recall:
Active recall is for retaining information like facts and numbers for a long duration. Its simply like if you have completed a topic, and now you think that you might forget it tomorrow. Then what you will do is to just read it again in next day. Okaey?
Its not active recall. Active recall meant you have some questions from the topic you read, now you are trying to answer or recall them by putting some pressure on your brain. In that way, you will never forget that info.
For active recall, try to make questions when you are studying that topic, or have an app like Anki where you create flashcards, which you use whenever you think its going out now.
Wrap Up
These are some techniques that I knew about, and some of them have also have changed my thinking capability to study. You will also get more techniques other than these, but these are some of the importants ones, that everybody should know.
There are also researches done on these techniques which have shocked a lot of people how these techniques effects efficiency.
