Best Notes Taking Method - Cornell Notes

Every student has on his mind to at least revise three times whatever information he or she has studied. But some students who are toppers or distinction holders have several revisions before exams.

But, there is a category of students that don't revise just because he or she has not much time to do so. So, here I will share one of the best Notes taking methods, that I learned in 1st year of my Med-school and applied for 2 years.

Here, I will talk about that method from scratch, What is it? How to use it? and also how you can effectively use it.

What Is Method?

The method that I wanna talk about is Cornell Notes, I think you should have heard about this before. This method was given by Professor Walter Pauk of Cornell University in 1950.

Here the partitions are created in a page, where each partition has its own role. One partition is for all details, another for questions related to that, and last it's all about the 3-line summary of complete page info.

How Can I Make Cornell Notes?

Take a piece of paper, and create 3 partitions on it. As mentioned in this picture.

Whenever you take any lecture in the classroom or on your own. Just write down the main details in the detail portion. Remember, each page should have a separate topic.

Then, as the class ends, just create some crisp questions from those details and write down them in key points. Also, write some additional details there, if it's important and linked to the topic.

As you are done with details and key points, create a 3-4 line summary of all details and write down that at the Summary part. And That's all about Cornel's Notes taking.

Benefits of Cornell Notes

A lot of benefits are linked with Cornell Notes taking, I will mention some benefits below:

  • This will save you a lot of time whenever you want to find information or facts again.
  • The questions in key points help you recall the complete info whenever you want to recall that topic.
  • Summary part helps you to have a fast insight into the information related to the topic.
  • Saves you from old-fashioned time-taking Notes taking methods.
